Cookies and Similar Technologies Policy

Last updated: June 04, 2026Archived versions

This Cookies and Similar Technologies Policy explains how Overwolf Ltd. and its affiliates ("Overwolf", "we", "us" or "our") use cookies, pixels, SDKs, local storage, software identifiers and similar technologies in connection with our websites, desktop client, applications, products and services (the "Services").

This Policy should be read together with our Privacy Policy, which explains how we process personal data more generally.

1. What are cookies and similar technologies?

Cookies are small text files placed on your browser or device. They can help a website, app or service remember information about your visit, device, preferences or activity.

We also use similar technologies, including pixels, tags, web beacons, SDKs, scripts, device identifiers, local storage and other technologies that store information on, or access information from, your browser, app, desktop client or device.

In this Policy, we use the term "cookies" to refer to cookies and similar technologies.

2. Who places cookies?

Cookies may be placed by us or by third parties.

First-party cookies are placed by Overwolf.

Third-party cookies are placed by third parties that provide services to us or work with us, such as analytics providers, advertising partners, fraud prevention providers, payment providers, content delivery providers and social media platforms.

Where third parties place or access cookies through the Services, they may process information according to their own privacy and cookie policies. Where required, we will only allow non-essential third-party cookies after you have provided consent.

3. Why we use cookies

We use cookies for the following purposes.

3.1 Strictly necessary cookies

These cookies are required for the Services to work. They enable core functionality such as login, account authentication, security, fraud prevention, load balancing, payment processing, service availability and remembering your cookie choices.

These cookies cannot be disabled through our cookie preference tool, although you may be able to block them through your browser or device settings. Blocking them may cause parts of the Services to stop working properly.

3.2 Security cookies

These cookies help protect the Services, users and our systems. They may help detect suspicious activity, prevent account takeover, protect payment flows, prevent abuse, and maintain the integrity of our Services.

3.3 Functionality cookies

These cookies allow us to remember your choices and preferences, such as language, region, display settings, login preferences and other service customizations.

3.4 Analytics and performance cookies

These cookies help us understand how users interact with the Services, including which pages or features are used, how long users spend on them, whether errors occur, and how the Services perform.

We use this information to measure usage, improve performance, fix issues, develop features and understand the effectiveness of our Services.

Where required by law, we use analytics and performance cookies only with your consent.

3.5 Advertising and measurement cookies

These cookies help us and our advertising partners deliver, measure and improve ads. They may be used to show ads that are more relevant to your interests, limit how often you see the same ad, measure ad performance, prevent ad fraud, understand whether an ad led to an action, such as visiting a page or making a purchase, and build or use advertising audiences where permitted by law.

Advertising cookies may involve profiling or interest-based advertising based on your activity on our Services, your interactions with ads, your approximate location, device information, and, where applicable, your activity across other websites, apps or services.

Where required by law, we use advertising and measurement cookies only with your consent.

3.6 Embedded content and social media cookies

Some parts of the Services may include embedded content, plugins or features from third parties, such as video players, social media platforms or external content providers. These third parties may place cookies when you interact with that content.

Where required by law, these cookies will be used only with your consent.

4. Desktop client, apps and local storage

Because some of our Services operate through a desktop client or app, cookies and similar technologies may be stored in, or accessed from, the desktop client, app environment, local storage or device.

This may include identifiers or local storage used for login, preferences, security, analytics, service functionality, advertising, ad measurement or fraud prevention.

We apply the same principles to our desktop client and apps as we apply to our websites: non-essential cookies and similar technologies are used only where we have a valid legal basis and, where required, after you have provided consent.

Some Services may include functionality that uses cookies or similar identifiers in the desktop client to support login, personalization, analytics, advertising, measurement or other service functionality.

We do not rely on your consent given in a separate browser environment as consent for Overwolf to access, copy, import, synchronize or use cookies in the Overwolf desktop client.

Where we access, copy, import, synchronize or use cookies or similar identifiers from another browser, app or device environment, we will do so only where legally permitted, only for disclosed purposes, and, where required by law, only after you have provided specific consent through the relevant Overwolf interface.

You may withdraw your consent at any time through the cookie settings or privacy settings made available in the Services. If you withdraw consent, certain personalization, analytics or advertising features may be disabled, but the core Services will remain available unless the relevant technology is strictly necessary for a feature you requested.

The legal basis depends on the cookie type and applicable law.

Strictly necessary cookies are used because they are required to provide the Services you requested, protect the Services, maintain security, or remember your privacy preferences.

For non-essential cookies, such as analytics, advertising, measurement, personalization and certain third-party cookies, we rely on your consent where required by law.

Where applicable law permits another legal basis for processing personal data collected through cookies, we may rely on that basis, such as legitimate interests for security, fraud prevention, service improvement or aggregated measurement, provided that this is permitted and appropriate for the relevant processing.

7. Your choices

Where available, you can manage your cookie choices through our cookie preference tool by selecting "Cookie Settings" or a similar link in the Services.

You can choose to accept all cookies, reject non-essential cookies, or manage cookies by category.

You can change or withdraw your consent at any time. Withdrawing consent will not affect processing that occurred before withdrawal.

7.2 Browser and device settings

You may also be able to block, delete or manage cookies through your browser, device or operating system settings. If you block or delete cookies, some parts of the Services may not work properly.

7.3 Advertising choices

Where applicable, you may also manage advertising preferences through industry opt-out tools, platform settings, browser settings, device settings or advertising partner settings.

Opting out of personalized advertising does not mean you will stop seeing ads. It means the ads may be less tailored to your interests.

7.4 California and other US privacy choices

If you are a resident of a US state that gives you the right to opt out of sale, sharing, targeted advertising or certain profiling, you may exercise those rights through our "Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information" link or other privacy choices made available in the Services.

Where required by law, we also honor recognized opt-out preference signals, such as Global Privacy Control, in the manner required by applicable law.

8. Children and minors

We do not knowingly use cookies for interest-based advertising directed to children where this is prohibited by applicable law.

Where our Services are directed to children or likely to be accessed by children, we apply additional protections as required by applicable law, including consent, parental authorization, age-appropriate transparency, and restrictions on profiling or targeted advertising.

9. Third-party providers

The third parties that may place or access cookies through the Services may include providers in the following categories: analytics providers, advertising networks and exchanges, ad measurement and attribution providers, fraud prevention and security providers, payment processors, hosting and content delivery providers, customer support providers, and social media and embedded content providers.

A list of the specific cookies and third-party providers used in the Services is available in our cookie preference tool or cookie table.

The specific cookies and similar technologies we use may vary depending on the Service, device, location, browser, app version and user settings.

We maintain a cookie table through our cookie preference tool, which includes, where applicable, the cookie or technology name, provider, category, purpose, duration, whether it is first-party or third-party, whether it is used for advertising, analytics, personalization or security, and links to relevant third-party privacy information.

11. International transfers

Some third parties that receive information through cookies may process it in countries other than your country of residence. Where required, we use appropriate safeguards for international transfers of personal data, as described in our Privacy Policy.

12. Updates to this Policy

We may update this Policy from time to time to reflect changes in law, technology, our Services, or the cookies and similar technologies we use.

If we make material changes, we will provide notice as required by applicable law and, where required, ask for your consent again.
